Biography

Hans Gelten, MSc., is projectleader and -researcher within the research chair Sustainable Energy Systems (professor Richard van Leeuwen) at Saxion University of Applied Sciences. His primary focus is mainly in projects about energy(carriers) (hydrogen) and raw materials from organic waste streams, but also system development of installation techniques. Currently he is running a PhD-project on Power-to-X technologies and the value chain of sustainable hydrogen production and applications. Special focus is on the synergy of WWTP and electrolysis and techno-economic assessment of Power-to-Methanol. From 2008 – 2021 he worked also at Saxion. First, as teacher at the education Chemical Technology and the last 7 years as teammanager at the educations of Biology & Medical Laboratorium research and Chemistry. He did his master at the University of Twente as chemical engineer, focusing on kinetics and catalysis. During a PhD-period he combined sustainability and catalysis in a research of converting bio-oil to building blocks for the industry. Richard van Leeuwen is Professor of Sustainable Energy Systems at Saxion UAS. The research group's practical research focuses on system integration in order to achieve integrated, sustainable energy systems from installation and operation level to the scale level of residential areas and business parks, the development of process installations for bioenergy and raw materials from low-grade biomass, and the development of hydrogen generation technology and hydrogen applications. His expertise is system integration, modelling of decentralised energy systems and multi-commodity smart grids. In the period 2007-2017 he worked at Saxion as a project leader and senior lecturer-researcher within the research group and has gained extensive experience in leading small and large research projects and since 2017 he has been leading professor of the group.
